She picked it out herself. Part of me thinks she just wanted to use it. I got it more as a "just in case" measure.
Foreshadowing!
Anyhow, the scuba suit type bag insulates somewhat. The best part is the Rubbermaid lunch block pieces- sold separately, of course. But! The little boxes are a good size to keep me from overpacking food for a small person. The blue ice platform freezes and will help keep cold things cold.
Admittedly, the Kai-Lan thermos is the one we've had for years. Glad to put it back in service though! There is nothing better for carrying hot lunch than a stainless steel insulated jar.
So, here's Friday's lunch:
*homemade pork-free red beans & brown rice
*cantaloupe
*whole wheat goldfish
*asparagus
Oh! Things I have yet to mention: Ro's new school is currently housed in a synagogue. What does this mean? No pork or shellfish (treif!) allowed. Totally threw a wrench in the sausage/cheese/fruit lunch. But there are pretty okay sausages made of beef or turkey... And I used turkey sausage and smoked turkey leg meat (looks just like ham!) in the red beans. They came out rather well- and seeing as how I stowed a few containers in the freezer for future lunches? I prepared enough to have at least 8 meals for her down the road.
Preparation will be key this time around, more so since it's just me getting her in gear in the morning. Luckily, small fry is eating her breakfast while I set up her lunch and blog. Oh! And made snack for her class today: apple slices and maple vanilla yogurt dip.
Guess I'm falling back into this lunch groove pretty well!
