lunch shopping...

one of the things i enjoy most about making ro's lunch is shopping for it.

things that i keep on hand at all times include:
  • boxes of thompson raisins - easy and healthy snack for lunch or on the go. the thompson raisins never seem to be old or stale, and i like them too.
  • bananas - a breakfast staple, ro is now asking for them by name (almost - Nanna!)
  • raisin bread - i like the sprouted grain variety for nutrition, and it makes good toast.
  • whole wheat bread - jeremy uses it for his lunch, too. i think the only white bread this kid has had has been hot dog or hamburger buns.
  • frozen fresh pasta - which sounds like a contradiction. fresh as opposed to dried. my stash of ravioli is vital to making sure ro has a hot lunches some days. and it's super versatile if you get a creative streak. any veg, sauce, meats can work with a simple cheese ravioli.
  • fresh spinach - for ravioli fixin's. also, a good salad for me.
  • TLC chewy granola bars - ro's school has a 'no chocolate' policy. so those flavors are verboten. but she likes the peanut butter ones, and the pumpkin pie ones too. we all like the chocolate cherry kind, but we just can't send those for lunch.
  • carrots and celery sticks - one or the other, ro is a big fan. i think she likes the celery better, to be honest.
  • Gogurt - in the freezer, psychs the kid into thinking she's getting a popsicle, but there's actual nutritional value to be had. yay, calcium!
every now and then something else will occur to me, but thus far, this has been pretty rote.

as she gets older and gets better with utensils and such, there will be much expansion, i'm sure.
