birthday lunch(es) and dinner...

today is my birthday. i am very lucky to have had three (3!!!) meals to celebrate the 34th year of my life....

friday lunch w/ michelle & amber at miLa:
  • pork pate (shared)
  • curried summer squash soup w/ crawfish
  • flat iron steak w/ fingerling potaoes, fresh corn, spinach w/ a demi glace-y sauce
  • vanilla bean rice pudding w/ strawberry confiture
today, jeremy ro and i went to the aquarium, then to felipe's for a lazy lunch of nachos. he had his w/ grilled chicken. mine were al pastor con guacamole.

for dinner tonight, we went to cafe adelaide:
  • amuse of tuna tartare, which had some molasses or cane syrup going, so itwas weirdly sweet.
  • fancy cocktails: 'neutral ground' made with limoncello and peach schnapps, and 'brake tag' made with southern comfort and amaretto and which wasn't as sweet as it sounds.
  • camellia red bean battered oysters (i know, i know - what?! but they were perfect- fat, not chewy at all, and the red bean flavor was a great compliment). jeremy and i shared these.
  • soy glazed duck breast with foie gras-sauteed faro (imagine *really* rich fried rice. yum.) and a strawberry based duck sauce-like goo. that's not what the menu said, but it was kind of a cross between hoisin sauce and strawberry jam. a smidge salty, but cooked medium and quite lovely.
now, we're going to molly's. ro is having a sleepover at grammy's, and that is always a good time for her. usually, i have no qualms taking her out to dinner, but it was really wonderful treat to have a quiet grown up night out...and now we're off to raise some hell! yeehaw!
